Why Dallas diabetes rates matter for which brand you get

Lilly sells one molecule under two names and warns against using Zepbound alongside any other tirzepatide product [5]. The Zepbound label covers long-term weight management plus obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity; the Mounjaro label covers type 2 diabetes [6][7]. In the city of Dallas, 12.4% of adults have diagnosed diabetes and 36.8% have obesity, according to 2023 CDC models [2]. Someone in the first group may get Mounjaro through an insurance plan. Someone in only the second group is usually shopping for Zepbound with cash.

Sponsored means paid. The practice in that slot bought the space, and its listing is not a ranking or a recommendation from us.

The yearly bill, set against Dallas income

LillyDirect per-fill prices and the Mounjaro list price (seen 10/17/2026)
DoseOn-time refillIf the refill is lateRef
2.5 mg (first 4 weeks only)$299$299[1]
5 mg$399$399[1]
7.5 mg$449 within 45 days$499[1]
10, 12.5 or 15 mg$449 within 45 days$699[1]
Mounjaro, any dose (list)$1,112.16 for 28 daysBefore coverage or coupons[8]
LillyDirect prices a month as 28 days. The figures are for medicine only.

Twenty-eight-day fills mean roughly 13 purchases in a year. Staying on a 7.5 mg or higher dose and refilling on schedule works out to about $5,837 a year in drug cost alone, by our math. Set that beside Dallas's $70,518 median household income from the 2020 to 2024 Census survey [3] and a year of Zepbound would eat a bit over 8% of it, before the clinic bills a dime. The full breakdown is on our tirzepatide cost page and Zepbound cost page.

How a Dallas prescription reaches LillyDirect

  1. The Dallas prescriber e-sends the order to LillyDirect Pharmacy.
  2. One of Lilly's partner pharmacies phones you to confirm the details and savings.
  3. You pick shipping to your door or collection at a Walmart Pharmacy store [1].

Since February 23, 2026 there is also a KwikPen that holds a month of weekly doses [9]. Lilly charges the same for pen and vial, though pen needles cost extra [1]. If an employer plan already covers Zepbound, Lilly's savings card can cut the copay to as low as $25; Medicare and Medicaid members are excluded [10].

What the main trial showed

SURMOUNT-1 followed adults without diabetes for 72 weeks. The group on the 15 mg dose ended 20.9% lighter on average; 10 mg came in at 19.5%, 5 mg at 15.0%, and placebo at 3.1% [11]. Your own result could be higher or lower. The follow-on SURMOUNT-4 study took people off the drug after 36 weeks, and that group put back an average of 14.0% of body weight over the following year [12]. More on tirzepatide results.

Compounded tirzepatide offers

Ads for cheaper compounded tirzepatide still circulate in Dallas. FDA's position: these products are not FDA-approved, and by May 31, 2026 the agency had logged more than 730 adverse event reports tied to them [13]. Pharmacy compounding of tirzepatide lost FDA's enforcement leniency on March 5, 2025, once the shortage was declared over [14]. Our compounded tirzepatide explainer covers what is still legal.

Label warnings to know

Rats given tirzepatide developed thyroid C-cell tumors, so Zepbound has a boxed warning and is off-limits for anyone with medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2 in their own or family history. Ongoing, severe abdominal pain may signal pancreatitis; stop and call. So should hives, facial swelling or trouble breathing. Sulfonylureas and insulin raise the odds of a low. The label says to stop once a pregnancy is known [15]. Emergencies go to 911.

Where to go next

Before a first visit, look the prescriber up on the Texas Medical Board website [16]. Remember that Texas Medicaid will not pick up the bill for obesity treatment with these drugs [4].
