Medical weight loss means a licensed prescriber oversees your weight treatment, which may include medicine, diet coaching and lab work.
Dallas by the numbers
Census estimates put Dallas at 1,329,491 people as of mid-2025 [5]. Within the city, the CDC's PLACES model gives an adult obesity rate of 36.8%. Widen the lens to the whole county and it reads 35.7%, while one Dallas County adult in eight (12.5%) reports a diabetes diagnosis [3][4]. These are 2023 survey models for a population. They say nothing about the patients of any single clinic.
County data stop at the county line. Plano and other suburbs outside Dallas County are not described by these rates.

Who pays: Texas Medicaid, Medicare and employers
Texas Medicaid is not one of the programs paying for GLP-1s to treat obesity; KFF's January 2026 survey says the state covers a few older weight drugs instead [6]. Dallas residents on a Part D plan have a separate door, the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge. It opened July 1, 2026, closes at the end of 2027, charges $50 per monthly fill, and requires meeting BMI-based criteria [8][9]. Employer plans are a coin flip: Lilly, quoting an IFEBP survey, says roughly half of workers with job-based insurance have no obesity-drug benefit [10]. See GLP-1 insurance and Medicare.
Comparing two Dallas programs side by side
- Get a written all-in figure for month one and month six from each program. Doses climb, and so does the drug price; LillyDirect's Zepbound ladder goes $299, then $399, then $449 [2].
- Find out if you would get Wegovy, Zepbound or Foundayo from a licensed pharmacy, or a compounded copy. FDA has not approved compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide and does not check them for quality or effect [11].
- Run the prescriber's name through the Texas Medical Board lookup [12].
- Read the refund and cancellation terms. Prepaid packages are common.
- If the program also sells online, check our FDA warning letter tracker.
Stop and call for help
Belly pain that is severe and keeps going can mean pancreatitis, and the labels say to stop the drug and reach the prescriber. The same goes for swelling, rash or trouble breathing after a dose. People using insulin or a sulfonylurea face a higher chance of low blood sugar. Both semaglutide and tirzepatide labels have a boxed thyroid tumor warning based on rodent studies [13][14]. For anything that feels like an emergency, dial 911.
Other Texas cities and online care
Maker prices are the same in every ZIP code, so an online GLP-1 program is a fair yardstick; read our provider reviews first. Nearby city guides: Houston, Austin and San Antonio. Start from the medical weight loss hub or the clinic finder checklist. Drug-specific Dallas pages cover tirzepatide and semaglutide.
Questions people ask
What should I budget for medical weight loss in Dallas?
Is obesity more common in the city of Dallas or the county?
Will Texas Medicaid pay for Wegovy or Zepbound to lose weight?
No. KFF found in January 2026 that Texas Medicaid covers some weight-loss drugs but none of the GLP-1s for obesity [6].
I am on Medicare in Dallas. Is there any GLP-1 coverage for weight?
A Dallas med spa sells compounded semaglutide shots. Are they approved?
No. FDA states that compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are not FDA-approved and that it does not review them for safety, effectiveness or quality [11].
Where can I confirm a Dallas prescriber's license?
The Texas Medical Board website has a public lookup for physicians licensed in Texas [12].
