Ozempic or Wegovy in a high-diabetes county

Broward's adult diabetes rate is 13.5%, and Fort Lauderdale's is 12.8% [3] [5]. Ozempic is approved for type 2 diabetes, including blood sugar control and lowering cardiovascular and kidney risks in that group; it is not approved for weight loss [1]. Wegovy is the semaglutide brand approved for weight management [6]. Insurance often follows the label, so a diabetes diagnosis can open coverage for Ozempic. Where to fill it

Novo's self-pay prices apply at NovoCare Pharmacy with home delivery, at CVS pickup locations, and at over 70,000 pharmacies using its savings offer, plus partners such as Costco and GoodRx [7]. TrumpRx lists Ozempic and the Wegovy pen from $199 and passes buyers to the manufacturer [8]. A prescription is always required.

Prices are moving

Novo says it will cut the list price of Wegovy and Ozempic to $675 a month starting January 1, 2027 [9]. List price mainly affects people paying through insurance deductibles. The $199 introductory self-pay price for new patients runs through December 31, 2026 [2]. A Novo executive said about half of Wegovy business now comes through self-pay channels [10].

Compounded vials in Broward

A compounded vial is not Wegovy or Ozempic: it is unapproved, FDA does not check it for safety, effectiveness or quality, and FDA has hospitalization reports tied to dosing errors with compounded injections [11]. Routine 503A copies lost FDA's allowance April 24, 2025 [12]. Florida physicians are licensed by the Florida Board of Medicine [13]. More at compounded semaglutide.

Lows and other warnings

Hypoglycemia gets more likely when semaglutide is paired with insulin or a sulfonylurea [6]. A boxed warning based on rodent thyroid C-cell tumors rules it out for anyone with MTC or MEN 2 in their own or family history [6]. Persistent severe stomach pain or allergic swelling needs care. Stop 2 months or more before a planned pregnancy. Dial 911 if it is severe.
