How we check

Medical weight loss in Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale patients pay national prices for brand weight loss drugs, from $149 a month for a GLP-1 pill to $449 for Zepbound, because Florida Medicaid does not cover GLP-1s for obesity [1] [2] [3]. The city's older population makes Medicare's new GLP-1 Bridge unusually relevant here.

An older city, and what that changes

Nearly one in five Fort Lauderdale residents, 19.6%, is 65 or older [4]. For Medicare Part D enrollees, the GLP-1 Bridge covers Wegovy, Foundayo and the Zepbound KwikPen from July 1, 2026 through December 31, 2027 for a $50 monthly copay [7]. To qualify you need, for example, a BMI of 35 or higher, or 30 or higher with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, uncontrolled high blood pressure or stage 3a kidney disease [7]. Zepbound vials and Ozempic are not covered by the Bridge [8].

That box is a paid placement and carries a label. It is never an endorsement. Practices can read sponsor a city.

Broward's diabetes and obesity rates

CDC PLACES estimates that 13.5% of Broward County adults have diagnosed diabetes and 30.6% have obesity; inside Fort Lauderdale the figures are 12.8% and 30.3% [5] [6]. People with type 2 diabetes may get Ozempic or Mounjaro covered under a diabetes benefit, which is separate from weight-loss coverage.

Tirzepatide in Fort Lauderdale

Many local searches are for tirzepatide. Zepbound costs $299 at 2.5 mg, $399 at 5 mg and $449 at 7.5 mg and up through LillyDirect, with free pickup at Walmart Pharmacy [2]. In SURMOUNT-1, adults without diabetes on the 15 mg dose lost an average of 20.9% of body weight at 72 weeks [9]. Compounded tirzepatide is not FDA-approved, and FDA's enforcement discretion for routine 503A compounding ended March 5, 2025 [10]. More on the tirzepatide guide and tirzepatide cost.

Choosing a program

Ask any South Florida clinic which drug it uses, whether it is brand or compounded, which pharmacy fills it, and what happens to the price at each dose step. Compare clinics with our clinic checklist, then look at Miami, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach. The weight loss hub has the basics.

Further down the Gulf side of the state, we also cover weight loss care in Naples.

Safety from the labels

Boxed warning on GLP-1 injections: thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents; not for those with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2 [11] [12]. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea for diabetes, ask about low blood sugar risk. Get care for severe, persistent stomach pain or allergic reaction signs. Stop when pregnancy is recognized. Call 911 in an emergency.
