Twelve months at $449 is $5,388, or about 5.7% of Denver's $94,718 median household income [2]. Late refills cost more: $499 for 7.5 mg and $699 for 10 to 15 mg [1]. Compounded tirzepatide after the shortage

FDA's grace period for 503A pharmacies making tirzepatide ended March 5, 2025, after the shortage was declared resolved [11]. Pharmacies can still compound for an individual patient when the prescriber documents a significant clinical difference, and FDA says it will not act on four or fewer copies a month [11]. Compounded tirzepatide is not FDA-approved, and FDA does not review it for safety, effectiveness or quality [12]. See compounded tirzepatide.

Trial results and side effects

In the head-to-head SURMOUNT-5 trial, tirzepatide averaged 20.2% weight loss versus 13.7% for semaglutide [14]. Stomach side effects were most common, mainly during dose increases [13].
