Semaglutide on Long Island: clinics and prices

Paying cash, a Long Islander pays what anyone in the US pays Novo Nordisk: $349 monthly for Wegovy pens and $149 to $299 for Wegovy tablets, as listed October 17, 2026 [1]. The local differences are who writes the prescription and what that office bills for visits.

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 drug taken weekly by pen or daily by tablet; Wegovy is the weight brand and Ozempic the type 2 diabetes brand.

An older island, so Medicare comes first

Roughly a fifth of Long Islanders are 65 or older: 20.5% in Nassau and 20.1% in Suffolk [5][6]. Part D members who meet the BMI and health tests can get Wegovy pens or tablets for $50 a month under the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, which runs July 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027 [7][8]. Ozempic and Zepbound vials do not qualify [8]. Diagnosed diabetes sits near 10% of adults in both counties [3][4].

More detail: semaglutide cost, GLP-1s and Medicare and Ozempic vs Wegovy.

What the drug costs against local incomes

Nassau's median household income is $146,202 and Suffolk's is $130,686 [5][6]. Twelve months of Wegovy pens at $349 total $4,188 [1], close to 3% of either figure. Many households here have job-based insurance; if it covers Wegovy, Novo's copay card can bring a month down to $25 [1].

Trial results and side effects, in short

STEP 1 reported a 14.9% average weight loss at 68 weeks on 2.4 mg (placebo: 2.4%) [9], and the Wegovy label's most common complaints are gut-related, led by nausea at 44% [10]. In a follow-up, people who stopped had regained about two-thirds of the loss within a year [11]; see stopping semaglutide and the full list on semaglutide side effects.

Get help for these

Rodent studies linked semaglutide to thyroid C-cell tumors, hence the boxed warning. Belly pain that is intense and lasting (possible pancreatitis), allergic swelling, or lows while also on insulin or a sulfonylurea all need prompt care. Come off it 2 months or more before trying to conceive [10]. Dial 911 in an emergency.

Compounded vials and NY license lookups

Compounded semaglutide has no FDA approval, and FDA does not vet it for safety, effectiveness or quality; it has warned of dosing mistakes with compounded vials that sent people to the hospital [12]. New York physicians can be looked up through the NYS Office of the Professions [13]. See compounded semaglutide and the FDA letter tracker.
