Chains, local practices and online programs

How to check a TRT clinic

  1. Look up the prescriber on your state medical board's license search [2].
  2. Ask how they diagnose. The AUA standard is two total testosterone tests below 300 ng/dL plus symptoms or signs [1].
  3. Ask whether the product is FDA-approved. Enclomiphene and many creams are compounded, and compounded drugs are not FDA-approved.
  4. Ask which pharmacy fills the prescription, and check it with your state pharmacy board [7].

Warning signs

  • Testosterone offered without lab tests, or after a single test.
  • A pitch that testosterone treats normal aging. The label says safety and efficacy for age-related low testosterone have not been established [8].
  • Pressure to prepay many months up front.
  • No plan to check blood pressure, which testosterone can raise [9].
