What the extra markers add

A marker count does not tell you which results will change your care. Marker counts are company figures. Ask which markers are tested, how out-of-range results are handled, and who orders follow-up tests.

We did not find a US guideline body in our research that recommends 100+ marker panels for healthy adults. Where guidelines do use extra testing for prevention, they target it. For example, the ACC/AHA cholesterol guideline uses a coronary calcium score only for adults 40 to 75 at intermediate risk when a statin decision is unclear [6].

Costs that are easy to miss

  • Renewal price. Function Health says the $365 offer renews at the then-current price [2].
  • At-home draws. Superpower charges $99 extra for a home visit [1].
  • Extra tests. Function Health charges members for on-demand tests and does not publish add-on prices for MRI, Galleri or other options [4].
  • Follow-up care. An abnormal result may lead to a visit with your own doctor and repeat labs, billed through your insurance or in cash.

Who each one fits

  • Superpower: people who want one broad panel a year at the lowest list price.
  • Function Health: people who want two draws a year and access to imaging add-ons through Ezra MRI.
  • InsideTracker: people focused on nutrition and fitness tracking who want to buy several tests up front.
  • Lifeforce: people who want quarterly testing with coaching, and accept a monthly fee. See our Lifeforce review.
