A GLP-1 medicine is a prescription drug that acts on the GLP-1 hormone pathway, including semaglutide (Wegovy, Ozempic), tirzepatide (Zepbound, Mounjaro) and orforglipron (Foundayo), used for type 2 diabetes or weight management depending on the product's FDA approval [5] [6] [7].

Price changes on the calendar

  • Dec 31, 2026: Novo's $199 Wegovy and Ozempic starter offer ends [2] [12]. Lilly's temporary Foundayo prices for 2.5 mg and 5.5 mg end [8]. Zepbound and Mounjaro savings cards expire [9] [15].
  • Jan 1, 2027: list prices for Wegovy, Ozempic and Rybelsus drop to $675 a month. Novo says self-pay prices do not change [11].
  • Dec 31, 2027: the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge ends [10].

How prices got here

Costco began selling Ozempic and Wegovy at $499 a month in October 2025 [32]. On Nov 17, 2025 Novo cut standard self-pay from $499 to $349 and added the $199 starter offer [33]. On Dec 1, 2025 Lilly cut LillyDirect Zepbound vials to $299, $399 and $449 from $349, $499 and $499 [34]. TrumpRx launched Feb 5, 2026 [35], and Foundayo reached LillyDirect on April 6, 2026 [16].

Hidden costs the table cannot show

  • A prescriber. Every GLP-1 here needs a prescription. Maker programs fill only prescriptions sent by a clinician [1] [2], and TrumpRx requires one too [14].
  • Dose step-ups. Zepbound and Foundayo cost more at higher doses [1] [8]; Wegovy pens do not until 7.2 mg [2].
  • Refill timing. Lilly's 45-day rule can raise Zepbound 10 to 15 mg from $449 to $699 [1].
  • Memberships and plan length. Telehealth fees from $19.99 to $149 a month, and some compounded prices need a 6- or 12-month plan [26] [29] [21].
  • Deductibles. NovoCare self-pay payments do not count toward insurance deductibles [2], and the Bridge copay does not count toward Part D out-of-pocket limits [3].

TrumpRx, Costco and GoodRx

TrumpRx is a government portal, not a pharmacy. It sends buyers to maker programs such as LillyDirect or provides coupons for local pharmacies, so its GLP-1 prices match the makers' starting prices [36]. In May 2026 it added more than 600 generic drugs and discounts from Amazon Pharmacy, Cost Plus Drugs and GoodRx [37]. Novo named Costco and GoodRx among its self-pay partners when it launched the $349 price [33]. We did not record separate GoodRx GLP-1 prices. More: TrumpRx explained.

Clinic programs and compounded drugs

We have not found reliable published price ranges for in-person medical weight loss clinic programs, so this tracker does not list a clinic average. Ask any clinic for the drug, visit, lab and membership costs in writing. To find one, use find a medical weight loss clinic or the weight loss hub.

Before you buy compounded

Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are not FDA-approved. FDA had 990 adverse event reports for compounded semaglutide and more than 730 for compounded tirzepatide by May 31, 2026 [30], and it has sent waves of warning letters to telehealth firms over claims that compounded drugs match brand drugs [38]. Check a program in our FDA warning letter tracker and read compounded tirzepatide or compounded semaglutide.

Questions people ask

How much do GLP-1 drugs cost per month?

Self-pay from the makers, brand GLP-1s cost $149 to $449 a month on time and up to $699 for late Zepbound refills. With commercial insurance that covers them, savings cards can cut the cost to $25. List prices are $1,028 to $1,349 (checked Oct 17, 2026) [1] [2] [4].

What is the cheapest GLP-1 without insurance?

Among FDA-approved options, the Wegovy pill at 1.5 mg and Foundayo at 0.8 mg or 2.5 mg cost $149 a month self-pay [2] [8]. Both prices rise at higher doses, to $299.

Do I need a prescription for a GLP-1?

Yes. LillyDirect and NovoCare fill only prescriptions from a clinician [1] [2], and TrumpRx prices also require a valid prescription [14]. Products sold without one as "research use only" are not legal medicine [30].

How much is Wegovy, Ozempic or Zepbound at Costco?

Costco started selling Wegovy and Ozempic at $499 in October 2025 [32]. A third-party tracker reported Costco prices in September 2026 of $199 to $399 for Wegovy, $199 to $499 for Ozempic, about $1,086.56 for Zepbound pens and about $1,103.95 for Mounjaro, which we could not confirm with Costco [17].

How much is the GLP-1 pill?

The Wegovy pill costs $149, $199 or $299 a month by dose through NovoCare [2]. Foundayo costs $149 to $299 a month through LillyDirect, with temporary prices on two doses through Dec 31, 2026 [8].

What is NovoCare Pharmacy?

NovoCare Pharmacy is Novo Nordisk's direct pharmacy. Your prescriber sends the prescription there and you get free home delivery or use the self-pay offer at a local pharmacy. Wegovy pens cost $349 a month through it [2].

How do I get approved for a weight loss shot through insurance?

Your plan must include the drug, and it may require prior authorization showing you meet criteria such as BMI rules. For example, TennCare's Aug 1, 2025 provider notice covers Wegovy and Zepbound with prior authorization for a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a related condition [39]. We could not confirm whether that changed after April 2026. Your prescriber submits the request.

Is tripeptide the same as tirzepatide?

No. "Tripeptide" is not the name of any FDA-approved GLP-1. Tirzepatide is the drug in Zepbound and Mounjaro [6]. Brand tirzepatide costs $299 to $449 a month on LillyDirect when refilled on time [1].
