How to check a concierge doctor before you join

  1. Look up the doctor's license on your state medical board, using the state table on this page or the FSMB directory [1].
  2. Get the yearly fee and any separate charges in writing. One MDVIP page listed a $70 lab charge outside the fee [14].
  3. Ask what the fee covers and what is billed to insurance; concierge practices keep billing insurance for covered care [15].
  4. If you have Medicare, ask whether the doctor accepts assignment. Medicare doesn't cover the fee [6]. Our Medicare guide lists more questions.
  5. Read the cancellation terms. PartnerMD asks for 30 days' notice and gives a prorated refund [5].

City guides can show one labeled sponsored placement. Payment never buys a ranking, a review outcome or a row in the Concierge Fee Index. Read how we make money, or sponsor a city if you run a practice.

Not sure concierge care is the right model? Compare it with direct primary care, read is concierge medicine worth it, or find a DPC practice. The concierge medicine guide covers the basics, and our private doctor guide compares every membership model by price.
