Amycretin (Zenagamtide): When It Will Be Available and Trial Results

Amycretin is not available and Novo Nordisk has given no approval date: its AMAZE phase 3 weight loss program started in the first half of 2026, and Novo expects one of those trials, AMAZE 8 against semaglutide, to report in the first half of 2029 [1].

In an early 36-week trial, people on the 20 mg weekly shot lost an average of 22.0% of body weight, vs a 2.0% gain on placebo [2].

Amycretin, now named zenagamtide, is an investigational Novo Nordisk drug that activates both the GLP-1 and amylin receptors with a single molecule, tested as a weekly shot and as a pill [3] [4].

When will amycretin be available?

Novo Nordisk said in June 2025 that it would move both the shot and the pill into phase 3 for weight management [4]. Its August 2026 report says the AMAZE phase 3 program started in the first half of 2026, that AMAZE 8, a trial against semaglutide, is expected to read out in the first half of 2029, and that a heart failure outcomes trial, HF-POLARIS, is expected to read out in the second half of 2029 [1]. A phase 3 start for the pill was listed for the third quarter of 2026 [1].

Novo has not said when it will file with FDA. FDA review of a complete application takes 6 to 10 months [5]. On Novo's stated trial dates, approval is years away. Track it in our GLP-1 pipeline tracker. Amgen's MariTide and Boehringer Ingelheim's survodutide have pages too.

Amycretin trial results

No phase 3 results have been reported. The numbers below come from two earlier trials of the weekly shot. The obesity figures assume everyone kept to their dosing schedule.

Averages from small trials; individual results vary, and phase 3 results may differ.

In the type 2 diabetes trial, A1C fell by up to 1.71 points from a starting average of 7.8%, and Novo saw no plateau in weight loss at 36 weeks on the higher doses [3]. Novo plans a phase 3 program in type 2 diabetes starting in the second half of 2026 [3].

Amycretin side effects

In both trials, Novo said the most common side effects were stomach-related and mostly mild to moderate, consistent with other incretin and amylin drugs [2] [3]. Novo has not published side effect rates for phase 3 yet.

How amycretin works

Amycretin is one molecule that acts on two receptors: GLP-1, like Wegovy, and amylin, a hormone released with insulin [3]. Novo's other amylin drug, CagriSema, takes a different route: it is two separate drugs, cagrilintide and semaglutide, in one shot [6]. Novo is testing amycretin both as a weekly shot and as a pill [4]. For background, see how GLP-1 drugs work.

Amycretin vs Wegovy and Zepbound

No head-to-head result exists yet; AMAZE 8 will compare amycretin with semaglutide [1]. The table shows each drug's main trial for context. Amycretin's numbers come from a small, short early trial, so they cannot be compared fairly with the large phase 3 trials of approved drugs.

How to get amycretin legally

Only in a clinical trial. Search open studies under both names, amycretin and zenagamtide, on ClinicalTrials.gov. It is not approved, so no pharmacy can fill it. FDA warns that unapproved GLP-1 products sold online have unknown quality and may be harmful [12]. See research-use-only GLP-1s and approved options in online GLP-1 programs.

How we check

Status, results and timelines come from Novo Nordisk's own releases and its SEC filing. When Novo reports phase 3 results or files with FDA, this page and the pipeline tracker change.

Questions people ask

When will amycretin be available?

There is no date. Novo Nordisk started the AMAZE phase 3 weight program in the first half of 2026 and expects AMAZE 8, against semaglutide, to read out in the first half of 2029 [1]. It has not announced an FDA filing date.

Is amycretin FDA approved?

No. Novo Nordisk describes zenagamtide, also known as amycretin, as investigational and under clinical trial development [3].

What is zenagamtide?

Zenagamtide is the name Novo Nordisk now uses for amycretin, a single molecule that activates both GLP-1 and amylin receptors [3].

How much weight do people lose on amycretin?

In a 125-person phase 1b/2a trial, people on the 20 mg weekly shot lost an average of 22.0% of body weight at 36 weeks, vs a 2.0% gain on placebo, assuming everyone kept to their dosing schedule [2]. No phase 3 results have been reported.

Is amycretin a pill or a shot?

Both are being tested. Novo Nordisk is developing a weekly injection and an oral version [4], with a phase 3 start for the pill listed for the third quarter of 2026 [1].

Is amycretin the same as CagriSema?

No. Amycretin is one molecule acting on GLP-1 and amylin receptors [3]; CagriSema is two drugs, cagrilintide and semaglutide, given together [6].

Can I buy amycretin online?

Not legally. It is not approved, and FDA warns that unapproved GLP-1 products sold online have unknown quality and may be harmful [12]. The legal route is a clinical trial.
