Concierge medicine is a primary care practice you join for a yearly or quarterly retainer, in exchange for quicker access and more preventive testing.
A Phoenix fee you can actually see
Most concierge practices hide their fee until you call. MDVIP is an exception at the physician level: one Phoenix physician's page listed $2,250 a year, with quarterly ($562.50) and semi-annual ($1,125) options [1]. According to MDVIP, every doctor sets a fee suited to the local market, and the money goes toward a yearly Wellness Program of in-depth tests that health plans typically skip [2]. On Phoenix's median household income of $81,332 [4], $2,250 is about 2.8%.
On flexible spending accounts, MDVIP's payment FAQ takes a two-part line: swipe an FSA card and it will be declined, but submit for reimbursement once your wellness visit is done and the claim may be paid. Treat that as MDVIP's reading; the IRS has not addressed it [6].

Executive physicals at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale
Phoenix residents wanting a top-to-bottom checkup can drive to Scottsdale, where Mayo Clinic's Executive Health program is based; Mayo notes a shuttle links its Phoenix and Scottsdale campuses [3]. Visits are packed into one to three days of exams and specialist consults, with the cost left off the website [7]. Background reading: the executive physical guide and executive physical costs.

Arizona's DPC law and HSAs
Arizona's legislature took up DPC in 2019; the resulting law (HB 2113 / SB 1105) sits in A.R.S. 20-103(E) and sections 44-1799.91 through 44-1799.96 [5]. The HSA angle is newer. From 2026 on, an individual DPC membership costing $150 a month or less can coexist with HSA contributions [10][11]. A Phoenix concierge doctor who also files insurance claims, as MDVIP physicians do, is outside that carve-out [11]. Compare models on concierge versus DPC.
For Phoenix retirees
One Phoenix resident in eight is past 65 (12.2%) [4]. For them the rules are blunt: Medicare reimburses none of the retainer, and a physician who takes assignment is barred from treating that retainer as a surcharge on care Medicare already pays for [12]. More detail: concierge medicine and Medicare.
A fast-growing model
Researchers at Johns Hopkins, OHSU and Harvard counted 1,658 concierge and DPC practices nationwide in 2018 and 3,036 by 2023; the corporate-affiliated slice grew 576% [13]. Before paying a Phoenix retainer, ask who owns the practice.

What is a typical Phoenix concierge retainer?
Is Mayo's executive physical available in the Phoenix area?
Will my FSA cover an MDVIP retainer?
MDVIP says not by card, though a reimbursement claim filed after the wellness services may succeed. That is the company's view, not an IRS ruling [6].
Which Arizona statute covers DPC?
The 2019 HB 2113 / SB 1105 law, found in A.R.S. 20-103(E) and 44-1799.91 to .96 [5].
I am on Medicare in Phoenix. Is any of the retainer reimbursed?
None of it, per Medicare.gov; covered services are still billed normally [12].
Is concierge care becoming more common?
Yes: a Health Affairs analysis found 83% more concierge and DPC practices in 2023 (3,036) than in 2018 (1,658) [13].
