Using Wegovy means a once-weekly subcutaneous injection with a single-dose or FlexTouch pen, or a once-daily tablet taken on an empty stomach, as the label directs.
Where to inject Wegovy
The label names three spots, all just under the skin: the belly (abdomen), the thigh and the upper arm [1]. Never aim for a muscle or a vein [2]. Move to a new spot with every weekly shot [1].
- Stomach: the abdomen [1].
- Thigh: the label names the thigh without limiting it to one part [1].
- Upper arm: also a labeled site [1].
No label site gives better results than another. Choose the area you can see and reach.
Using the pen
Each carton includes Instructions for Use for that pen. Read them before your first injection; we have not reproduced the steps here. These label rules apply to every Wegovy pen [1] [2]:
- Put on a fresh needle for every shot, then take it off and dispose of it safely.
- Leave the pen cap on between uses.
- A FlexTouch pen is for one person only, even after a needle change.
- People with impaired vision should not use the FlexTouch pen on their own.

Best day and time to take Wegovy
Morning or evening, either is fine. Per the label, you can shift the time of day and the injection spot without any change to the dose [2]. Choose a weekday that is easy to remember. The pen comes with no meal timing rule.
Taking the Wegovy pill
- Take it as soon as you wake, before any food [2].
- Swallow one whole tablet with a small sip of plain water, 4 ounces at most [2].
- Give it at least 30 minutes before breakfast, coffee or any other drink, or other medicines [2].
Only one tablet a day [2]. Taking the pill after eating does not follow the label.
Early, late, skipped or every other week

Taking it 1, 2 or 3 days early. The label covers late doses only. Ask your prescriber before moving your day. Skipping a week for vacation, or going every other week. Your first weeks on Wegovy
You start at 0.25 mg and step up every 4 weeks [2]. Stomach reactions were reported most often during these step-ups [2]. The label does not say how soon after an injection effects begin. Dose detail: Wegovy dosage.

How long a pen lasts, and what it costs
A single-dose pen is one injection; a FlexTouch pen delivers four 2.4 mg doses and is discarded 56 days after first use [2] [1]. List price is $1,349 a month [4]. Self-pay through NovoCare is $349 a month for the pen and $149 to $299 for the pill, checked October 17, 2026 [3]. Novo Nordisk plans to cut the list price to $675 from January 1, 2027 [5].
