Selank: Legal Status in the US and What FDA Has Said

No: Selank is not FDA-approved, and as of Oct 24, 2026 a US pharmacy may not lawfully compound it [1].

Unlike its better-known relative Semax, it was not part of FDA's April 2026 peptide action and is not on any announced advisory committee agenda, so no path to legal compounding is in motion [2] [3]. FDA says it lacks important information on Selank's safety in humans [4].

Selank, also called Selank acetate or TP-7, is a synthetic peptide that has no FDA approval for any use and that FDA now lists as nominated but withdrawn [4] [5].

Legal status of Selank

Not allowed in compounding

Selank cannot be legally compounded [1]. It is not on any announced FDA advisory committee agenda [6] [15]. It was not part of the April 2026 removal from Category 2 [2].

FDA status
FDA placed Selank acetate in Category 2 on Sept 29, 2023 [5]. FDA now lists it as "nominated but withdrawn," which is outside every category [4]. We could not confirm when the nomination was withdrawn. Selank was not one of the 12 peptides FDA removed from Category 2 in April 2026 [2]. It is not in Category 1 and is not on the 503A bulks list, so a 503A pharmacy may not lawfully compound it today [1]. FDA says it lacks important information on Selank's safety in humans [4]. Our confidence in this summary is medium, because FDA has not explained Selank's path.
Advisory committee
No advisory committee review. Selank is not on the July 2026 agenda or the five-peptide list planned for before the end of February 2027 [6] [15].
FDA-approved products
None. We found no FDA-approved drug that contains Selank.
Sports (WADA)
Selank is not named on the 2026 list [7]. The list's S0 class covers substances with no approval by any government health authority for human use [7]. Whether that class covers Selank is a judgment call, so athletes should ask their anti-doping agency before use.
What happens next
We found no pending FDA review for Selank. A new nomination or another FDA action would be needed before a pharmacy could compound it [9].

Why Selank is stuck

Most peptides in the news this year are moving through a process: an advisory committee review, a vote, then a decision by FDA. Selank is not. Here is its path so far:

  • Sept 29, 2023: FDA placed Selank acetate in Category 2, the group of substances it says present significant safety risks in compounding [5].
  • Later, on a date we could not confirm, the nomination was withdrawn. FDA's safety page now lists Selank acetate as nominated but withdrawn [4].
  • April 2026: FDA removed 12 peptides from Category 2 and set up reviews for them. Selank was not one of the 12 [2] [8].
  • July 2026 and the planned February 2027 meeting: Selank is on neither agenda [6] [3].

Being off every list is not the same as being allowed. A 503A pharmacy may use a bulk ingredient only if it has a USP or NF monograph, is in an FDA-approved drug, or is on FDA's bulks list [9]. Selank has none of these and is not in Category 1 [1]. Because FDA no longer sorts new nominations into its interim categories (it stopped for nominations made on or after Jan 7, 2025), a fresh nomination would not by itself put Selank in Category 1 [9].

What Selank is

FDA's lists name it Selank acetate, and some sources call it TP-7 [5]. Online sellers market it for anxiety, stress and focus. FDA has not published a briefing on Selank the way it did for the July 2026 peptides, so there is no FDA summary of its human studies to report here. We did not find a primary source we could cite for its chemistry or for any human trial, and we will add one when FDA or a peer-reviewed review we can check publishes it.

What FDA says about safety

FDA's stated concern is short: "FDA lacks important information regarding any safety issues raised by selank acetate" when given to humans, and it notes a risk of immune reactions [4]. FDA has not reviewed any Selank product for quality, so buyers cannot know what a vial holds.

If you use Selank for anxiety

Tell your doctor, especially if you take other medicines for anxiety, depression or sleep. FDA says it lacks human safety information [4]. A doctor can go over FDA-approved treatments for anxiety. For trouble breathing after a dose, call 911.

Selank and WADA

WADA's 2026 list does not mention Selank by name [7]. That is not a clearance. Its catch-all class, S0, bans pharmacologically active substances that no government health authority has approved for human therapeutic use [7], and an anti-doping agency decides case by case whether a product fits. If you are tested, get that answer in writing first.

We found no pending FDA review [3]. For a pharmacy to compound it, FDA would have to add it to the bulks list by rule after a committee review, or take some other formal step [9] [11]. The interim peptide access policy sent to the White House in October 2026 has no public list of peptides, and we found no report naming Selank [12] [13]. A drug company could also seek full FDA approval; we found no public filing.

There is no legal way to buy Selank today

There is no legal way to buy Selank for human use in the US today. A 503A pharmacy may not compound it, and no FDA-approved drug contains it [1]. Products labeled "research use only" are not a legal workaround; FDA has rejected that label in warning letters to online sellers [14].

Products sold as "research use only" are not a legal route; FDA rejected that label in a 2025 warning letter [14]. See our peptide FDA status tracker, the legal peptide price tracker, BPC-157, FDA warning letters and our guide to wellness injections.

Selank history

  • : FDA's safety page lists Selank acetate as nominated but withdrawn. The withdrawal date is not confirmed [4].
  • : FDA placed Selank acetate in Category 2, citing significant safety risks [5].

Other peptides with no FDA review under way: CJC-1295 and ipamorelin and thymosin alpha-1. Peptides that did get a favorable vote in 2026: MOTS-c and Semax.

How we check

Selank has no FDA briefing, so this page leans on FDA's lists. On Oct 24, 2026 we searched the categories document, the safety-risk page and both advisory committee meeting pages for any mention of it [1] [4] [3]. We rate our confidence in the withdrawal timeline as medium, because FDA has not explained it. When FDA publishes anything on Selank, we will add it. Our rules are in our editorial standards.

Questions people ask

Is Selank legal in the US?

No. FDA has never approved Selank, and on Oct 24, 2026 it was missing from every list a compounding pharmacy may draw on, including Category 1 [1]. With no review scheduled, that is unlikely to change soon [3].

Is Selank being reviewed by FDA?

We found no review scheduled. Selank is not on the July 2026 committee agenda or the five-peptide meeting planned before the end of February 2027 [6] [3].

Is Selank safe?

No regulator has found it safe. FDA says it lacks important information on safety issues raised by Selank acetate given to humans and flags a risk of immune reactions [4].

Why was Semax reviewed and Selank was not?

Semax was one of 12 peptides FDA removed from Category 2 in April 2026 and sent to its committee; Selank was not among them [2]. FDA has not explained why.

Is Selank banned by WADA?

It is not named on the 2026 Prohibited List [7]. The S0 class covers substances with no government approval for human use, so ask your anti-doping agency.

What is the Selank dose?

There is no FDA-reviewed dose. FDA has not reviewed any Selank product and says it lacks human safety information [4]. We do not publish dosing for unapproved peptides.
