A Wegovy diet is how you eat and drink while on Wegovy; the label sets no meal plan but has timing rules for the pill and warnings that touch on fluids and blood sugar.
Where the label stops
Wegovy's label has no meal plan, no protein or water target and no alcohol rule, and we could not confirm outside nutrition guidance for this update. When the label is silent, this page says that rather than guessing.
Beer, wine or spirits on Wegovy
In the Wegovy label sections we read, alcohol is not mentioned, and no type of drink is treated differently. Two warnings are still worth weighing before a night out:
- Hypoglycemia. With type 2 diabetes, clinically significant low blood sugar hit 6.2% on Wegovy and 2.5% on placebo; insulin or a sulfonylurea adds to that risk, and their doses may be cut [1].
- Dehydration. Vomiting or diarrhea that keeps going can drain fluids and damage the kidneys (Section 5.5) [1].
Does Wegovy cut the urge to drink? That is not an approved use, and no trial on it appears in our sources.
The pill's morning routine
Pill users have a strict start to the day. Swallow the tablet on an empty stomach with 4 ounces of plain water or less, then hold off at least 30 minutes before food, any other drink, coffee included, or other pills [1]. After those 30 minutes, the Medication Guide says you can eat, drink and take other medicines [4]. The pen has no meal timing; the Medication Guide says it can be taken with or without food [4].
Daily fluids. Outside that 4-ounce cap with the tablet, the label sets no water goal. The Medication Guide does say drinking fluids helps lower your chance of dehydration [4], and fluid loss from vomiting or diarrhea is a kidney risk [1]. If you cannot keep liquids down, call your prescriber.
Wegovy, diabetes and blood sugar
Wegovy is not approved to treat diabetes. Ozempic, which contains the same semaglutide, carries the type 2 diabetes approval [1] [2]. Wegovy's low blood sugar warning is aimed at people who have type 2 diabetes [1]; we found no rate for people without it in the sections we read. Drug combinations are covered in Wegovy and other medicines.
Meals that sit better, and what to skip
No food list comes with Wegovy. What the label does say is that it slows stomach emptying [1], and that on 2.4 mg nausea (44%), constipation (24%) and indigestion (9%) are common [1]. A simple food diary showing which meals set off symptoms gives your prescriber something concrete. Changes in how food tastes are not addressed.
For a weekly structure, see the GLP-1 diet plan. For protein and strength, read keeping muscle on a GLP-1. The label sets no calories, protein grams or vitamin doses.
Food noise, big appetites and workouts
"Food noise" is a popular phrase, not a label term, and the label has no data on it. Still eating a lot? On the pen you may not have reached maintenance, which starts at week 17 [1]. People also respond differently: in STEP 1, about 1 in 7 on semaglutide 2.4 mg lost less than 5% [3].
Nothing in the label limits exercise. We could not confirm the lifestyle program STEP 1 used, so we cannot say how Wegovy does without changes to diet or activity. See Wegovy trial results and Wegovy side effects; the broader version for all semaglutide brands is eating on semaglutide.
When food or drink becomes urgent
If you cannot keep fluids down, or stomach-area pain is severe and will not ease, stop Wegovy and call your prescriber now [4]. If someone using insulin or a sulfonylurea turns confused or faints, call 911.
Questions people ask
Can you drink alcohol on Wegovy?
No alcohol limit appears in the Wegovy label sections we read. The label does warn about hypoglycemia in type 2 diabetes with insulin or a sulfonylurea, and about kidney injury from fluid loss, so talk to your prescriber first [1].
Can you drink coffee on Wegovy?
Pen users have no coffee rule. Pill users must wait at least 30 minutes after the tablet before coffee or any drink besides water [1].
Does Wegovy lower blood sugar?
It is not a diabetes treatment, but with type 2 diabetes 6.2% on Wegovy had clinically significant low blood sugar vs 2.5% on placebo, more likely with insulin or a sulfonylurea [1].
What should I eat on Wegovy?
The label gives no diet. It notes that Wegovy slows stomach emptying and that nausea, constipation and indigestion are frequent [1]. Our GLP-1 diet plan has food ideas.
What foods should I avoid on Wegovy?
None are banned in the label. Keep track of meals that bring on nausea (44% on 2.4 mg) or indigestion (9%) and share that with your prescriber [1].
How much water should I drink on Wegovy?
Can you take Wegovy after eating?
Can Wegovy cause low blood sugar?
Yes, mostly in type 2 diabetes, where 6.2% had clinically significant episodes vs 2.5% on placebo [1].
Can I exercise on Wegovy?
The label puts no limit on exercise. The lifestyle advice used in STEP 1 could not be confirmed, so its effect cannot be measured here [3].
