California's Medi-Cal cutoff

The 2025-26 state budget ended Medi-Cal coverage of GLP-1s for adult weight loss from January 1, 2026. Members under 21 are still covered, and uses other than weight loss, such as diabetes, can be covered when medically necessary [1]. California was one of four states KFF identified as dropping obesity coverage after October 2025 [7].

Boutique pricing versus the drug's price

Beverly Hills' median household income is $132,977, compared with $81,939 in the City of Los Angeles [5]. Higher incomes can mean higher clinic price tags. The medicine itself costs the same everywhere: the manufacturer prices below are what any pharmacy charges a self-pay patient. Anything above that is the clinic's fee for visits, labs, body scans or add-on injections. Ask for those costs as separate line items.

Read before starting

Wegovy and Zepbound have a boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents and are not for people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2 [9] [10]. Pancreatitis, gallbladder problems and allergic reactions are listed warnings, and pairing these drugs with insulin or a sulfonylurea raises the chance of low blood sugar. Stop when pregnancy is recognized. Compounded GLP-1s sold by some clinics are not FDA-approved [11]. Call 911 for emergencies.
