FDA says it "has not identified any human exposure data on drug products containing dihexa acetate" [2]. It is one of five substances FDA plans to bring to its compounding advisory committee before the end of February 2027, with no date set [3] [4].
Dihexa, listed by FDA as dihexa acetate, is a synthetic compound sold online as a memory and brain health product; FDA has found no data on its use in people [2].
- Next FDA step
- Committee reviewBefore end of Feb 2027 [3]
- FDA-approved products
- NoneWe found no approved drug with dihexa
Dihexa is marketed online for memory, focus and brain repair. Of all the peptides FDA has listed in its compounding reviews, it is one with the least human information: FDA says it found none.
Legal status of Dihexa
Under FDA reviewDihexa is waiting for an FDA advisory committee review planned before the end of February 2027 [12] [4]. Until FDA acts, it cannot be legally compounded [7].
- FDA status
- FDA removed it from Category 2 in April 2026 because the nominators withdrew their nominations [6]. That removal did not make it legal to compound [7]. FDA now lists it as "nominated but withdrawn," which is outside every category [2]. It is not in Category 1 and is not on the 503A bulks list, so a 503A pharmacy may not lawfully compound it today [1]. FDA says it has not found any human exposure data for dihexa acetate [2].
- Advisory committee
- Not yet reviewed. It is one of five peptides FDA plans to bring to the committee: GHK-Cu, LL-37, dihexa, Melanotan II and PEG-MGF [12]. That review is expected before the end of February 2027 [12] [4]. No date had been set as of Oct 16, 2026 [4].
- FDA-approved products
- None. We found no FDA-approved drug that contains Dihexa.
- Sports (WADA)
- Dihexa is not named on the 2026 list [9]. The list's S0 class covers substances with no approval by any government health authority for human use [9]. Whether that class covers Dihexa is a judgment call, so athletes should ask their anti-doping agency before use.
- What happens next
- FDA plans to bring it to its Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee before the end of February 2027, according to law firm reports [12] [4]. No meeting date had been set as of Oct 16, 2026 [4]. Even a favorable vote would not be binding. FDA would still have to act through rulemaking or another formal step [10].

Dihexa and FDA, step by step
- Sept 29, 2023: FDA placed dihexa acetate in Category 2, substances with significant safety risks [5].
- April 15, 2026: FDA announced it would remove 12 peptides, including dihexa, from Category 2 because the nominators withdrew [6].
- Late April 2026: FDA's safety page now lists dihexa acetate as nominated but withdrawn, a status that does not allow compounding [2] [7].
- Before the end of February 2027: FDA plans an advisory committee meeting on dihexa acetate and four other substances [3].
Today, dihexa fails every test a 503A pharmacy must meet: no USP or NF monograph, not in an approved drug, not on the bulks list, not in Category 1 [8] [1]. A prescription does not fix that.

What dihexa is sold as
FDA lists it as dihexa acetate [2]. Online sellers market it for memory and focus. FDA has not published a briefing on dihexa yet, so there is no FDA summary of how it works or what animal studies show. We did not find a primary source we could cite for its mechanism, so we do not describe one here. FDA's briefing for the 2027 meeting should fill that gap, and we will add it.
Zero human data: what that means for you
FDA's statement is blunt: it "has not identified any human exposure data on drug products containing dihexa acetate" [2]. That means:
- No published study tells you what a safe amount is, or whether any amount is safe [2].
- No study reports side effect rates, drug interactions or long-term effects.
- No regulator has checked what is in a product sold as dihexa.
If you have memory concerns
Memory changes deserve a doctor's visit, because some causes are treatable. Bring any brain health product you use to that appointment; FDA has found no human data on dihexa [2]. Sudden confusion, weakness on one side or trouble speaking: call 911.
Dihexa and drug testing
Dihexa does not appear on the 2026 WADA list [9]. Athletes should not read that as permission: S0 is written to cover active substances without government approval for human therapy, named or not [9]. A ruling from your anti-doping body is the only safe answer.
What the 2027 review could change
FDA's meeting page says the time and place for the next meeting "will be scheduled in the coming months" [3]. If the committee votes in favor, the vote is still advice; FDA would need a proposed rule, a Category 1 listing or enforcement discretion before any pharmacy could use dihexa [10]. If FDA staff follow the approach they took for the July 2026 peptides, the briefing documents will be posted before the meeting, and they will be the first public FDA review of dihexa's evidence.

Dihexa status history
- : The removal took effect around this date. FDA now lists it as nominated but withdrawn, which does not allow compounding [2] [7].
- : A law firm report said the advisory committee will meet before the end of February 2027 to review it and four other peptides [12].
- : FDA gave seven days' notice that it would remove 12 peptides, including this one, from Category 2 because the nominators withdrew [6].
- : FDA placed it in Category 2, citing significant safety risks [5].

How we check
There is less to check on dihexa than on most peptides, which is part of the story. Our Oct 24, 2026 pass covered FDA's safety-risk entry, which carries the no-human-data statement, plus the categories document and the 2027 meeting notice [2] [1] [3]. When FDA posts a briefing, we will summarize it here. More: editorial standards.
Questions people ask
Is dihexa legal?
Is dihexa safe?
No one has shown it is. FDA says it has not identified any human exposure data on products containing dihexa acetate [2].
Does dihexa improve memory?
We found no human trial showing that. FDA has identified no human exposure data on dihexa at all [2].
When will FDA decide on dihexa?
Is dihexa banned in sports?
It is not named on the 2026 WADA list, but the S0 class covers substances with no government approval for human use [9]. Ask your anti-doping agency.
What is the dihexa dose?
There is no reviewed dose, because FDA has found no human exposure data [2]. We do not publish dosing for unapproved peptides.
