Medical weight loss in Naples

In Naples, where 34.8% of Collier County residents are 65 or older [1], the biggest change in weight loss care is the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge: since July 1 2026 eligible Part D enrollees pay $50 a month for Wegovy (semaglutide), Foundayo or the Zepbound KwikPen [2][3]. Without coverage, Wegovy costs $349 a month through NovoCare [4].

Medicare first: the Bridge in a retiree market

More than one in three Collier County residents is 65 or older [1]. For them, the most useful development is the temporary Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, a CMS demonstration outside the regular Part D benefit [3]. The key terms:

  • Covered drugs: Wegovy (injection and tablets), Foundayo, and the Zepbound KwikPen. Zepbound vials and Ozempic are excluded [3].
  • Copay: $50 per one-month supply [2].
  • Eligibility: Part D coverage plus BMI of 35 or higher; or 30 or higher with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, uncontrolled high blood pressure or kidney disease stage 3a or worse; or 27 or higher with prediabetes, a prior heart attack or stroke, or symptomatic peripheral artery disease [2].
  • Prior authorization runs through Humana, with decisions within 72 hours [3].

Diabetes is common here

CDC PLACES estimates diagnosed diabetes at 13.7% of Collier County adults and 13.4% in the city of Naples, while obesity is 26.6% countywide and 22.9% in the city [5][6]. People with type 2 diabetes may be prescribed Ozempic, which is labeled for diabetes and not for weight loss [8], and is usually handled by regular Part D coverage.

Local care and checks

NCH (Naples Comprehensive Health) is the main local health system; we did not confirm a weight program page there. Check any prescriber with the Florida Board of Medicine [11]. Florida law makes it a felony to pay or receive kickbacks for patient referrals [12], so be wary of clinics offering referral rewards.

Older adults and GLP-1s

GLP-1 labels list acute kidney injury from dehydration after vomiting or diarrhea, gallbladder disease and pancreatitis. Low blood sugar is more likely with insulin or a sulfonylurea, which many older adults take [13]. Call 911 for fainting, chest pain or severe abdominal pain.
