Medical weight loss is a supervised program in which a licensed prescriber pairs diet and activity changes with FDA-approved medicine and regular check-ins.
One in three Orlando adults: the local numbers
CDC model estimates put adult obesity at 34.5% inside Orlando city limits and 33.5% across Orange County [2] [3]. Diagnosed diabetes runs at 11.2% of city adults [2]. The city had 333,888 residents in the July 2025 Census estimate [6]. These are population rates. They say nothing about whether a given person needs medicine, which is a decision for a prescriber who has your history.

Who pays: Florida Medicaid, employer plans and Medicare
Florida is not among the 13 state Medicaid programs that KFF counted as covering GLP-1s for obesity in January 2026 [1]. If you are on Medicaid in Orlando, a weight-only prescription for Wegovy or Zepbound will usually not be paid for, though diabetes drugs are a separate question.
Orlando employer plans differ widely. Lilly cites an IFEBP survey finding that roughly half of Americans with job-based insurance have no coverage for obesity medicines [7]. Central Florida retirees on Part D may fit the temporary Medicare GLP-1 Bridge: $50 a month from July 1, 2026 through December 31, 2027, if they meet its BMI rules [8]. The GLP-1 coverage and Medicare page explains each route.
National cash prices Orlando patients see
Lilly and Novo charge an Orlando buyer what they charge anyone in the US. The local part is whatever visit or program fee a clinic stacks on top.
| Medicine | Seller | Cash price each month |
|---|---|---|
| Wegovy tablets (semaglutide) | NovoCare [4] | $149 to $299, set by dose |
| Wegovy pen | NovoCare [4] | $349, or $199 for the first two fills at the two lowest doses |
| Zepbound vial or KwikPen | LillyDirect [9] | $299 to $449, more if a refill runs late |
| Foundayo (orforglipron) tablets | LillyDirect [5] | $149 to $299, set by dose |
A clinic program or a direct purchase?
You still need a prescriber either way. Some Orlando patients see a local doctor and send the prescription to NovoCare or LillyDirect. Others join an online program that bundles visits with the drug. Bundles can look cheap per month but may lock you into a multi-month plan or exclude labs. Ask for the full price at each dose step, since Zepbound rises from $299 at 2.5 mg to $449 at 7.5 mg and above [9].
- Brand or compounded? A compounded GLP-1 carries no FDA approval, and FDA does not check it for safety, effectiveness or quality [10].
- Which pharmacy fills the prescription, and does its name appear on the label?
- Do the quoted monthly fee and the dose steps include labs and follow-ups?

Safety signs that need a doctor now
From the FDA labels
Rodent studies led to a boxed warning on thyroid C-cell tumors for Wegovy and Zepbound, so people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2 should not use them [11] [12]. Get care for stomach pain that is severe and persistent, a possible sign of pancreatitis, or for any allergic reaction. Insulin or a sulfonylurea taken alongside raises the odds of low blood sugar. The drugs are stopped once pregnancy is recognized. Call 911 for an emergency.
