How we check

Medical weight loss in Scottsdale

Scottsdale is an older city, with 26.4% of residents aged 65 or over [1], so for many people here the cheapest route to a GLP-1 is the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge: a $50 monthly copay for Wegovy, Foundayo or the Zepbound KwikPen through December 31, 2027, for Part D enrollees who qualify [2]. Younger adults usually pay cash, from $149 a month for pill forms [3].

Medical weight loss means a clinician evaluates your weight-related health and may prescribe an FDA-approved medicine alongside diet and activity changes.

An older city changes the coverage math

Census figures put Scottsdale's 65-and-older share at 26.4%, more than double Phoenix's 12.2% [1]. In Maricopa County, which includes both cities, 30.4% of adults have obesity and 10.6% have diagnosed diabetes [4]. Arizona Medicaid does not cover GLP-1s for obesity [5], so the coverage that matters most locally is Medicare.

A local practice can buy the sponsored slot. It is marked sponsored, and the payment buys no recommendation from us.

The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, step by step

  1. Confirm you have Medicare Part D. The Bridge runs outside the Part D benefit but requires Part D coverage [2].
  2. Check the BMI rules: 35 or higher; or 30 or higher with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, uncontrolled high blood pressure or stage 3a+ kidney disease; or 27 or higher with prediabetes, a prior heart attack or stroke, or symptomatic peripheral artery disease [2].
  3. Your prescriber requests prior authorization, which Humana processes centrally with a decision within 72 hours [6].
  4. Fill Wegovy (pen or pill), Foundayo or the Zepbound KwikPen for $50 a month. Zepbound vials and single-dose pens and Ozempic are not covered [6].

Tirzepatide in Scottsdale

Scottsdale adults under 65, or who miss the Bridge criteria, can buy Zepbound from LillyDirect: $299 a month at 2.5 mg, $399 at 5 mg, and $449 at 7.5 to 15 mg as long as each refill lands within 45 days [7]. In SURMOUNT-1 the 15 mg group averaged 20.9% weight loss over 72 weeks [8]. See tirzepatide and Zepbound cost.

Local systems and what we could confirm

Scottsdale health systems include HonorHealth and Mayo Clinic's Arizona campus, home to Mayo Clinic Executive Health at 13400 E. Shea Blvd. We found no posted medical weight loss price at either. Look up any prescriber with the Arizona Medical Board [10], and use our clinic checklist and weight loss guide. Elsewhere in the Southwest: Phoenix, Tucson, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.

Label warnings for older patients

Both labels list pancreatitis, so abdominal pain that is intense and lingers needs care [11] [12]. Retirees on insulin or a sulfonylurea should ask their prescriber about low blood sugar. A swollen face, lips or throat can mean an allergic reaction. The boxed warning on thyroid C-cell tumors means these drugs are off limits with MEN 2 or a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma. Stop if a pregnancy is recognized. Emergencies go to 911.
