Medical weight loss is prescriber-led care for obesity that may include FDA-approved drugs such as semaglutide or tirzepatide, along with nutrition and activity changes.
The MassHealth rules as of July 2026
MassHealth Pharmacy Facts 276 (May 13 2026) set the change: across all plan types, Wegovy, Saxenda and Zepbound are no longer covered when used only for weight loss, effective July 3 2026 [1]. Coverage continues for:
- BMI over 27 with established cardiovascular disease (to reduce heart events)
- BMI over 30 with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea
- MASH (fatty liver disease with inflammation)
- Members under 21 under EPSDT [1]
Wegovy is the sole preferred agent where coverage continues [1]. Diabetes drugs such as Ozempic follow separate rules.

Where Bostonians get care

Online options are compared in semaglutide online and reviews such as Found and Form Health. Check any prescriber with the Board of Registration in Medicine [5].
